Donations for Lantana families - June 30, 2020 UPDATE
We are proud to say that the Lantana Ladies League will no longer need to collect donations for the victims of the tragic fires that occurred on Tuesday morning, June 23rd. All of the immediate needs of the families have been met because of the kindness and generosity of family, friends and neighbors.Thank you for your timely contributions.
We’re proud to tell people that “We are Lantana” knowing that this tragedy could’ve happened to any one of us. You stepped up as a community to show compassion and kindness in a time of need. We would also like to thank all of our first responders for their heroic support. You are greatly appreciated.
Dear Members,
The past few months have been a very challenging time for the world, our country and certainly for our community of Lantana. In times of adversity, we can still be hopeful, not because everything is good but because we can see the good in everything. I believe that the Lantana Ladies League stands as an example of the "good" in a world that is hurting.
The Lantana Ladies League formed 15 years ago because 2 friends saw the value of giving back to the community. In these years, we've grown to become a group of women who donate thousands of dollars to charity but who also invest energy in growing fellowship among our 250 members. As your new LLL board members begin planning for our year, we hope you'll take 5-10 minutes to offer some feedback. Your attitudes, thoughts and opinions are important to us. We are working on plans to celebrate our 15th Anniversary this coming September and on plans for other events in 2020-2021: both in person or virtual settings.

Dear Members,
These past few months have been challenging for us, challenging for us a nation. Sadly, the Lantana Ladies League had to cancel events. Unfortunately, we are unable to resume activities in May.
I know this is a difficult time for everyone. In tough times, we rely on our friends, so it’s hard not meeting for wine or brunch. It’s hard not being able to hug a friend. Some of our special interest groups have jumped on Zoom calls to stay connected. While it’s not ideal, we’re looking to leverage technology, like Zoom, to stay connected with our members as we go forward and operate in a “new normal” in the uncertain future.
We had to stop meeting physically, but we meet virtually to keep things in motion.
New Board Nominations
In anticipation of the league’s active term ending at the end of May, the Board Nominating Committee has been meeting virtually to select the executive council (EC) officers and board for the 2020-2021 term. The president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary make up the EC leadership team.
We will send out an email to all active members to present the names of the EC nominees. Members will vote to accept the new EC, so look for that email soon. Subsequently, we will announce the new EC and remaining board member seats that we have filled and any openings that we may still have. See current board member seats on our website.
Lantana Ladies League Scholarship 2020
We are awarding $1000 to a Guyer High School senior boy and $1000 to a senior girl. Students were required to submit an essay: “How Will This Scholarship Impact my Life?” The Scholarship Committee received essay submissions anonymously. Seniors who have a parent on the current board were not allowed to apply.
Committee members are reading essays and using a rubric assessment tool to score each essay. The scholarship committee will meet virtually in early May and determine the winners. We will announce the winners after we have notified them directly.
This year, we can’t award our scholarships at the Guyer High School Wildcat Walk, but we will ensure the students receive these scholarships as intended.
Community Involvement
Amid chaos and uncertainty rose compassion and goodwill. The Merry Mask Makers of Lantana are women serving with their hearts and hands by spending countless hours sewing hundreds of masks. The rapid-fire spread of Covid-19 and the need for masks inspired one of our members to act quickly. Valerie Green (pictured below) joined Zoy’e Nix in a grassroots effort to provide masks for senior homes, soup kitchens, and other service providers in need of masks.
Thank you to these incredible women for stepping up and setting such a good example for others. Their timely and selfless action inspired others to get involved. This mask-making effort grew exponentially when other women with sewing skills volunteered to help. They now have a crew of 80 plus women cranking out masks. As long as the need for masks exists, they will continue to sew.
The Lantana Ladies League is supporting them. The Merry Mask Makers of Lantana are accepting monetary donations to purchase fabric online, and they are accepting fabric donations. Please go to their Facebook page to learn more: Merry Mask Makers of Lantana
Regardless of what the future holds, the Lantana Ladies League is not going anywhere, so hang in there a little while longer. We will be back, and we will bring back all the fun things you know and love about being a member. Until then, stay strong, stay safe, and always stay connected with us on our Facebook page and on our website.

Lantana Ladies League President
Dear Members,
We hope you’re all doing well under these unusual circumstances.
In adhering to the official mandate from our governor’s office to continue social distancing practices, the Lantana Ladies League will not host any events in the month of April. In this time of uncertainty, we cannot predict how this will affect us in May. We will continue to monitor the situation and communicate with you.
Let’s stay compliant to keep ourselves and our families safe!
Kind regards,
The Lantana Ladies League Board
The Lantana Ladies League Board continues to track developments regarding the COVID-19 outbreak. The prevailing protocols suggest reducing interpersonal contact to minimize the risk of transmission. Because the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and our government officials highly recommend social distancing, we decided to cancel our “Movie Night” March social and all remaining Special Interest Group (SIG) events in March. The recent AMC announcement to close its theaters temporarily is in line with our thinking of taking precautions.
We also made the very difficult decision to cancel The Amazing Race set for April. We know this news is disappointing. It truly breaks our hearts to cancel one of our most popular events. We do not know what will unfold in April, so we chose the safe option of not putting our members and guests at risk. At this time, we are not confident we could procure sponsors and businesses that would welcome approximately 140 women running through their establishments throughout the night. In addition, if we had to cancel at the last minute, we would lose a very large sum of money. Please understand that there is an incredible amount of planning and work involved in hosting The Amazing Race event, so if things appear to improve in April, we are not able to just bring it back. We apologize and ask for your understanding.
The Lantana Ladies League event season typically ends in May. We are considering May graduations and summer vacations as we explore alternative options to hold this event.
We will continue to monitor the pandemic situation and communicate with you on the status of April events.
Let’s continue to support each other through this challenging time but from a distance.
Kind regards,
The Lantana Ladies League Board
